ENVISIONING LIVING ENVIRONMENTS for People with Mental Illness Roundtable discussions begin Sept. 18. Forum is Friday, Oct. 12 The Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation is proud to sponsor this important community mental health forum to be held on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls. Reservations are required and seating is limited. The forum runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Speaking at the forum will be Jonathan Kirschenfeld of Jonathan Kirschenfeld Associates, New York City, winner of the 2005 NYC AIA Housing Design Award for supportive housing and the 2004 Building Brooklyn Award. He will be joined by Dr. John Zeisel, President and co-founder of Hearthstone Alzheimer Care, Ltd., and author of Inquiry by Design: Tools for Environment-behavior Research. Also speaking will be Mary Anzilotti, Area Director of Quality for Thresholds Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centers, Chicago. With 30 service locations and more than 75 housing developments in the Chicagoland area, Thresholds serves about 6,000 people with mental illness each year.

The forum will bring together service providers, clinicians, housing developers and design practitioners to discuss best practices for housing people with severe mental illnesses. The forum will address the recovery process and the importance of establishing normal environments for people with mental illnesses. It will also address physical considerations that are specific to housing for the mentally ill.

Roundtable Discussions Begin Tuesday, Sept. 18

We have planned a series of roundtable discussions to review and gain further input on the draft of the document, and the issue will be further investigated at the foundation’s forum on Oct. 12.
